The number of graffiti complaints in the city is going up.
The NYPD says it has received 211 more complaints about vandalism this year compared to last year—that's a 5 percent increase to about 4,200.
Police commissioner Bill Bratton spoke out about graffiti in the city last week.
He said the department is tracking it with a new computer program.
Bratton said graffiti is something to nip in the bud because it could signal bigger issues, like gang activity.
