Internet Week New York is under way in the Big Apple.

The week-long event features a range of classes on software tips, to business strategies and predictions about the future of technology.

It also boasts tech-savvy speakers and opportunities to share innovative ideas and get feedback.

Mayor Bill de Blasio delivered the keynote address Monday morning in Chelsea, saying the city is ready to embrace a growing technology industry.

"We understand that for us to be a true 21st century global capital this community will play a particularly crucial role. It's not just because you bring so much in the way of jobs and investment, it's because any successful city, I would argue more than ever in history, a successful city thrives on the kind of disruption that new technology brings," De Blasio said.

The mayor says several city initiatives to encourage technological development are under way including a new Tech Talent Pipeline, a $10 million program to recruit and train residents for technology jobs.

Internet week events are being held across the city.
