Some Prospect Park residents are protesting the construction of a new high-rise in their neighborhood.

Activists say the proposed building doesn't have enough affordable housing, and separates more moderately-priced units from luxury apartments.

They also say it takes advantage of a hole in zoning laws that have no height restrictions for the Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood.

"It was obvious to us that this kind of strip had become a magnet for developers to build out-of-context luxury towers in order to take advantage of the views over Prospect Park," said community activist Suki Cheong.

Construction on the 23-story building is set begin next month.

Earlier this year, residents tried to get a moratorium on high-rise construction in the area so zoning laws could be revised to impose tighter height restrictions on new buildings. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
