Two pitchers making their major league debut turned in impressive performances in the final game of this year's Subway Series, but the Yankees were the ones who came out on top, winning 1-0 at Citi Field Thursday night to earn a split of the four-game Subway Series.
Mets starter Jacob deGrom pitched six innings and struck out six, while giving up just four hits, while Yankees starter Chase Whitley pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out four.
The Yankees finally got to deGrom in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI double by Alfonso Soriano.
Perhaps the most impressive performance on the mound came from Yankees rookie reliever Dellin Betances, who struck out the side in both the sixth and seventh innings. He ended up getting the win, his second of the year.
David Robertson picked up the save, his seventh.
The teams ended up splitting the four-game series, with the visitors winning every contest.
