There's good news for riders of the L and M subway lines.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it plans to increase service in the fall because of a growth in ridership.

One of the major changes will be an increase in L weekend service, which the MTA hopes will lower wait times.

The MTA will also increase weekday evening L service by three additional round trips.

This is in addition to the service increases that go in effect in June.

The L has shown the most growth of any line in the subway system.

On the M line, there will be one additional round trip on weekday trains. That's in addition to a weekend extension from Myrtle Avenue to Delancey Street-Essex Street that starts in June.

The additional service will cost the MTA $1.7 million annually.
