Brooklyn Bridge Park is requesting proposals to develop residential towers on two sites near Pier 6 in the park.
Officials say the the plans will include two high-rise towers and approximately 130,000 square feet of affordable housing.
They say the development will provide 60 percent of the funding necessary to maintain the park's piers.
However, a group of elected officials in the borough says the development will add to overcrowding in the area and that the city must "plan more thoughtfully for the future of the neighborhood."
Responses to the request for proposals are due on July 21.
