The New York Rangers' power play finally came to life Friday night, and now, the Rangers are alive in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

After three straight losses, the Blueshirts roared past the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 5-1 win in Game 5 that pulls them to within one win of tying the best-of-seven series.

Facing elimination, Chris Kreider and Ryan McDonagh tallied Ranger power play goals for the first time in 10 games to break an 0-for-36 drought.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 31 Pittsburgh shots in the Ranger win.

Derrick Brassard scored twice, and Kevin Klein added an empty-netter.

The Rangers got a boost from the play of forward Martin St. Louis, who suited up despite the death of his mother the day before. St. Louis spent Thursday night with family in Montreal before flying to Pittsburgh Friday afternoon to join the team.

With the Rangers now trailing the series 3-2, Game 6 will be Sunday back at Madison Square Garden. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
