The New York Yankees are paying tribute to former skipper Joe Torre.

The team says his number 6 jersey is going to be retired in a ceremony before the game on August 23.

It's only the third time the team has bestowed such an honor on a manager.

Under Torre's leadership, the Yankees won four World Series titles and six American League Championships.

After his number is retired, the only remaining active single-digit number will be Derek Jeter's number 2.

As part of this year's Hall of Fame induction the team will also honor Rich "Goose" Gossage, Tino Martinez and Paul O'Neill. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
