If you're a retired police officer or firefighter and you think you received a gift from the city this week, think again.

According to the city comptroller's office, nearly $300 million was accidentally deposited into pension funds for more than 31,000 NYPD and FDNY retirees.

Officials said the deposits will be reversed, and the pensioners who received the money are being told not to spend it.

The Financial Information Services Agency, which is responsible for the error, is run jointly by the comptroller and the mayor's office.

They've promised to work together to figure out what happened.
