  • Text size: + -

Folk singer Pete Seeger will be celebrated with a five-day music festival taking place throughout New York City in July.

Highlights will include a SummerStage performance in Central Park and an outdoor concert at Lincoln Center, as well as events in the Bronx and Hudson Valley.

Seeger, who was born in New York City and launched his career in Greenwich Village in the 1940s, died in January at age 94.

Plans for the five-day Seeger Fest were announced Wednesday in Manhattan at a press conference attended by performers Tom Chapin, The Chapin Sisters, Emma’s Revolution and Rick Nestler, as well as singer Aurora Barnes, hip hop artist and poet Nyraine, and DJ Kool Herc.

The event is being produced by Seeger's grandson, Kitama Cahill-Jackson, and Gina Belafonte, the daughter of singer and activist Harry Belafonte.
