New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has tapped former state Attorney General John Degnan to replace David Samson as Port Authority chairman.

Samson resigned in March amid the fallout from the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal last September.

Christie said that Degnan, who was attorney general from 1978 to 1981, has what it takes to reform the agency.

He said, "What's needed over there more than anything else is new, tough, independent leadership that's going to look at the issues that exist and come back with great ideas."
