An appeals hearing on the Health Department's attempted soda ban has been scheduled for June 4.
The National Alliance for Hispanic Health is one of 10 organizations that filed a brief Monday backing the ban.
The cohort has called it a "reasonable and measured attempt" to slow the spread of obesity, diabetes, and other illnesses.
The ban would restrict the purchase of sodas and other high-sugar drinks larger than 16 ounces.
It was originally proposed by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, but a judge blocked it a day before it was set to take effect in March 2013.
