The Sikh community was front and center Saturday for the city's annual Sikh Culture Society Parade in Midtown.

Parade-goers said the event raises awareness and brings an understanding of the Sikh community.

"This particular day is really just, you know, it's called Vaisakhi, so the Sikh day parade is really celebrating the birth of religion," said one person at the parade.

"I really, what I really do love about my religion is how it emphasizes equality and how it's welcoming to everyone," said another.

Organizers said the parade is the largest gathering of Sikhs on the east coast. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
