A family is grieving after a 9-year-old boy died after being found unconscious on scaffolding outside a Bronx high-rise.

Police say Sidy Fofana was found outside the Morris Heights building after a 911 call around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's unclear what led up to the incident, but police say he may have fell.

Sidy's parents say they no idea what could've happened.

His mother, Sanata Diakite, says he left their apartment on the fourth floor and went up to his uncle's apartment in the same building.

What he did next is a mystery.

Residents say the building's windows have guards installed, so he may have gone up to the roof.

His mother wants answers.

"The worst thing is that since it happened to now, we still have no answer how it really happened," said Sanata Diakite, Sidy's mother. "That's likely every mother's worst nightmare, that your son went upstairs only for a few minutes, and then later, the police come knocking on your door saying that they found the body of your son."

The building is undergoing renovations, but police haven't said if that played a role in the child's death.

The medical examiner will determine the cause.
