Officials and activists are using the selfie to promote Earth Day.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Nature Conservancy launched the Nature Selfie Photo Project.

It encourages people to take pictures of yourself in front of trees, flowers or other blooming plants.

Kids and adults joined the movement in Prospect Park Tuesday.

"We really wanted include people in doing something that they can take an action, something simple, something fun where they can get outside and connect to nature and post their photos so we can share them," said Sophia Kelley of the Environmental Protection Agency. "So we took advantage of the popularity of the selfie."

You can post pictures on the "Earth Day Nature Selfies" Flickr page, or to social media with the hashtag #natureselfie. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
