The federal government is mulling over a move that could allow tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants to stay in the country.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson is considering limiting the number of deportations of immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally, but don't have serious criminal records.

Sources tell the Associated Press that Johnson's orders are coming directly from President Barack Obama.

The change could reduce deportations handed down solely because of immigration violations, such as returning to the U.S. after being deported.
