Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano spent part of his day Monday welcoming a new class of EMTs.
In a speech, he commended the 87 new technicians and said they'll help make the city a safer place.
"But there's many ways to be rich," Cassano said. "Every day that you go to work, you have the chance to save someone's life. There's very few people, when they go to work, that say they can do that."
In addition to starting a new job, one of the graduates also opened a new chapter of his life, proposing to his girlfriend at the ceremony.
