Metro North is once again defending its record on track safety after Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal says the railroad has racked up more than half a million dollars in fines the last 10 years.
An agency spokeswoman says Metro North has made great strides in track maintenance and improving infrastructure.
The railroad has been under increased scrutiny in the wake of several high-profile accidents.
Last May, a Metro North train derailed in Bridgeport, injuring dozens.
And last December's derailment in the Bronx left four people dead and injured dozens more.
