Puerto Rican salsa legend Cheo Feliciano has died after a car crash.

Police say the 78-year-old singer was driving alone when his car hit a light post early Thursday in Puerto Rico.

Feliciano was a member of the Fania All Stars and received a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.

NY1 caught up with Larry Harlow, a longtime friend and producer of Feliciano's, who had fond memories of the late crooner.

"Check my email, and of course, the first thing that turned up was the death of Cheo Feliciano, my dear friend, and I immediately broke out in tears," Harlow said. "I don't think there's another person in the Latin music business that had a personality as Cheo, or the talent, and I'm going to miss him very much."

Feliciano is survived by his wife and four sons. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
