Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton announced Thursday that she is pregnant with her first child. NY1's Courtney Gross filed the following report.

Hillary and Bill Clinton are going to be grandparents.

Chelsea Clinton and her husband Marc Mezvinsky are expecting, and the Clinton family is growing.

"Marc and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year," Chelsea Clinton said Thursday.

Chelsea Clinton made the surprise announcement alongside her mother. The two were at the Lower East Side Girls Club hosting a conversation about breaking the glass ceiling.

The former Secretary of State was smiling ear to ear.

"I'm really excited about [it], and it makes this work even more important," Hillary Clinton said. "Maybe our grandchild will not have to be worried about what some young women and young men worry about today. So obviously, we are very excited about what's happening in our family."

Not too long ago, the former first daughter had said 2014 would be "the year of the baby," and speculation about a so-called baby bump swirled ever since.

She serves as the vice chair of the Clinton family foundation.

"Whether it's a girl or a boy, that she or he will grow up in a world with so many strong, young female leaders," Chelsea Clinton said. "So thank you for inspiring me, and thank you for inspiring future generations, including the one that we'll be lucky to welcome into our family later this year."

Neither Chelsea nor the former secretary took questions after the event.

The younger Clinton made news earlier this week when she said she wouldn't rule out a run for public office, but it appears that motherhood is coming first.

Recently, Chelsea Clinton has become a much more public face for the Clinton family, fueling speculation about her own political ambitions.

As for her mother, the topic of presidential politics did not come up on Thursday. Instead, it looked like the conversation was staying personal.
