Third-period goals from Brad Richards, Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin led the New York Rangers to a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first round series Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
Richards' and Stepan's goals came on the same powerplay, a high-sticking double minor taken by the Flyers' Jason Akeson.
The goals came just 47 seconds apart, at the 8:22 and 9:09 marks of the third period.
Hagelin added a third third-period goal with a little more than four minutes remaining to seal the win.
The Flyers got on the board first a little more than seven minutes into the first period on a goal by Andrew MacDonald.
The Rangers' Mats Zuccarello responded a little more than three minutes later to tie the score at 1.
Goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 14 saves in the win for the Rangers.
Game 2 will take place Sunday afternoon at MSG.
