The Yankees unveiled a plaque in Monument Park Wednesday to honor Nelson Mandela.

The ceremony took place before Wednesday night's game against the Cubs.

The plaque hangs next to a tribute to Jackie Robinson.

Among those attending were Mandela's family and Robinson's widow, Rachel.

Yankee captain Derek Jeter presented them with a replica of the plaque.

The plaque marks the late civil rights leader's historic trip to the old Yankee Stadium in 1990, just four months after being released from prison.
