The city is looking for ways to get taxis to slow down as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's 'Vision Zero' campaign to end traffic deaths.
The Taxi and Limousine Commission has requested information about technology that could prevent vehicles from speeding.
The measures include devices that can intervene when a driver speeds, or sound an alarm if a cab is driven recklessly.
The TLC says the anti-speeding devices could be used on a trial basis.
The city has also been looking for information about black boxes for taxis similar to those used on airplanes.
