Activists and teenagers walked across the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday to bring awareness to teen dating violence.

The nonprofit group The Healing Center organized the rally.

The organization says 1 in 4 teens will experience violence during the course of a relationship.

"Not a lot of teens understand or even know the term teen dating violence. We are here to create awareness, to educate and to prevent," said Sandra Torres, youth coordinator at The Healing Center.

"I've had some friends who have gone through some of it, and it's really terrible," said one attendee. "It's just really hard to explain to them why they deserve better.

"I know many people who go through these situations, and it's wrong," said another.

The event was the third annual walk-a-thon for teen dating violence.
