An NYPD officer is being detained in India after customs officials there found bullets in his luggage.

Officer Manny Encarnacion was arrested in New Delhi on March 11.

He says he forgot to take the bullets out of his coat pocket before packing.

"We are certainly concerned for that officer and for his wife who is there with him in India at this time. That's a process that's moving slowly in the Indian justice system, but we are staying involved,” said NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton.

Rep. Peter King says the arrest is retaliation for the arrest of India's then Deputy Consul General in December for alleged visa fraud.

Encarnacion is barred from leaving India until the case is resolved.

His next court date is April 17. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
