The lights went out in Times Square on Saturday night as the world celebrated "Earth Hour."
Some of Times Square's famous billboards and even the New Year's Eve ball went dark as part of the annual event.
Bright spots and landmarks in major cities shut off their lights for 60 minutes as part of “Earth Hour.”
The movement aims to raise awareness of global energy consumption and conservation efforts.
This was the first time the New Year's Eve ball was powered down. The Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center and the MetLife building also participated.
