A fire that broke out inside a vacant store in Midtown Thursday morning is under investigation.

Flames broke out around 8:30 a.m. on 34th Street near Seventh Avenue.

The fire department says the fire was under control in about an hour and a half.

Officials say the store was under renovation and workers were inside when the fire started.

"It looks like they were working on it. They had workers in there with torches," said FDNY Deputy Chief Mike McPartland. "The biggest problem is when we have a vacant structure and we have what we try to do is we try to minimize the exposures, try to minimize the extension of the fire."

There were not injuries reported.
