A Manhattan man faces second degree murder and assault charges after police say he stabbed his parents Tuesday, killing his father.

Police found Anthony Powe's father, 71-year-old Darlington Powe, with stab wounds to the face and chest around 6 a.m. inside his apartment located at 784 Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Powe's 56-year-old mother was stabbed in the chest.

She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Powe's sister says her brother was being treated for mental illness.

Sources say bloody scissors were found at the scene.

They also say police had answered calls of eight domestic incidents at the home since December 2004.
