A 77-year-old woman is dead after being hit by an SUV in Brooklyn.

Police say Marlene Baharlias was crossing East 19th Street in Homecrest at around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday when she was struck by a Mercedes-Benz SUV that was trying to parallel park.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Eric Gershenson, who witnessed the crash, said that the driver might have been rushing to get the parking space and lost control.

"There was a spot that opened up, and my partner, we own Healthalicious here on Avenue U and East 19th Street, was trying to park into the spot, and the truck beeped him along, so he went a little bit further down, and this lady was trying to get into the spot, so when she backed into the spot, I guess she accelerated a little too much and jumped up on the curb and hit the old lady," Gershenson said.

The driver stayed on scene.

No charges have been filed.
