Irish Catholics celebrated St. Patrick's Day Monday with a mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
The cathedral is undergoing a restoration, but the scaffolding didn't stop parishioners from reserving tickets for the popular service.
Mass began hours before the parade festivities got underway, but those in attendance were still dressed in green to show their Irish pride.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan expressed his gratitude to those in attendance.
"St. Patrick is the patron of the Archdiocese of New York and obviously the patron of this great cathedral, so thanks, everybody, for coming to help us kick off this holy day, this feast day," Dolan said.
The mass concluded with the national anthems of both the United States and Ireland.
