David Brenner, a comedian and favorite guest on the "Tonight Show," has died.
A spokesman for Brenner's family says he died in his New York City home after a battle with cancer.
Starting in the 1970s, Brenner appear with Johnny Carson a record 158 times.
NY1's Shelley Goldberg interviewed Brenner about his long career in 2012.
"I don't say anything to myself about my success. I say it to a little boy who wasn't quite 9 years old who went through rough times and had a dream, and I helped him make it come true," he said.
Brenner continued performing standup his whole life, including at a Pennsylvania casino show this past New Year's Eve.
Brenner was 78 years old.
