Two men were convicted Friday of planning to kidnap, rape and torture women in a pair of cases that sources say are connected to the so-called "cannibal cop."

Christopher Asch, 24, and Michael Van Hise, 61, were arrested last year.

Police say they were planning a series of gruesome acts against women in Van Hise's family.

They say Asch was also involved in a similar plot against a woman who turned turned out to be an undercover agent.

The trial centered on the question of whether the two men crossed a line to act on their violent fantasies.

The defense lawyers for both men said that they would appeal the jury's guilty verdict.

Sources say the charges followed from an investigation into NYPD officer Gilberto Valle, though the exact connection is unclear.

Valle is awaiting his sentence after a jury convicted him of a plot involving kidnap and cannibalism.
