For the first time since the HIV epidemic began, AIDS is no longer a top 10 cause of death here in the city.
Health Commissioner Mary Bassett says the disease fell off the top ten list of killers for the first time since 1983.
Statistics from the city's health department show AIDS as the number nine killer in 2011 with 766 reported deaths.
That number dropped to 609 the following year.
Bassett said she believes the decline is attributed to the efforts made in tackling the epidemic.
