Hundreds of staff members at Long Island College Hospital are being given pink slips as part of a settlement agreement to keep the facility open in the next few months.

SUNY Downstate says 600 nurses, doctors, technicians, patient care associates and support services staff have received 30 day layoff notices.

They say the hospital has begun the process of aligning staffing levels with patient volume and currently available services, which will not change.

According to the agreement, SUNY Downstate must keep the hospital open until May and restart the bidding process for developing the site.

NY1 has reached out to the Nurses Association for comment.
