Police are on the hunt for a man who is believed to have ripped off at least 10 women in an apartment scam in the East Village.

Investigators say the man poses as a realtor on Craigslist and offers apartments for rent.

When he goes to meet with his victims, he takes their deposit money.

Police say he has offered apartments in two different buildings.

From January 16th through February 1st, he advertised an apartment at 321 East Sixth Street.

Police say nine different women gave him $2,200 each.

On January 30, police say another woman gave the man $2,100 for an apartment at 434 East Ninth Street.

"Messed up. Why would someone go out of their way to be so mean, especially in today's market," said one East Village resident.

"I think people are really desperate and they keep thinking of new schemes," said another East Village resident.

"I just moved in right across the street and luckily went through a management company, but definitely looked at apartments on Craigslist," said a third resident.

Investigators say the man uses the aliases David Horowitz and Michael Bryant.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
