A child is in critical but stable condition after being hit by a car on a Queens street Monday afternoon.

Police say the 2-year-old child was with his mother when he ran out onto 196th Street in Flushing shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday.

According to police, the child was then hit by a blue Mitsubishi Outlander traveling southbound on 196th Street.

Police say the child was transported to the hospital with serious head trauma.

Police say the driver of the blue Mitsubishi remained on scene.

The driver was ultimately allowed to drive away, indicating that police do not believe that there was any criminal wrongdoing. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
