New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz on Monday paid a visit to P.S. 75 to help with the "It Starts With School Breakfast" campaign as part of National Breakfast Week.

The campaign is designed to teach kids the importance of starting each day with a nutritious meal, which experts say helps them stay focused throughout the day and ultimately be more successful in school.

Teachers say they get a better response from students if they had a good breakfast.

"Students that have eaten breakfast are able to stay focused and have the mental energy to be able to do the work that they need to do," said Fourth Grade Teacher Benelly Peralta.

"If you don't have breakfast, you're in school and you're just waiting for lunch to come around so you can get energized again, and by then it's already 11:50, 12 o'clock. So you've already missed half your school day," Cruz said.

"I can get a lot of energy and focus more on my school work," said one P.S. 75 student.

Around 250,000 children participate in the city's free school breakfast program.

The campaign also promotes more exercise and activity for young people.
