An unusual volleyball match was held Tuesday night between two teams who are technically from the same school.
NYU and Polytechnic University faced off even though Polytechnic no longer exists.
The school merged with NYU on January 1 but the sports teams will stay separate for a few more months.
Polytechnic sports teams, now called NYU-Poly, are being allowed to remain intact through the end of their respective spring seasons.
That left players competing against their possible future teammates:
"I just try to ignore the fact that the school, our school name is going away along with our sports team and I just keep playing, trying to live it out as it is," said John Simon, an NYU-Poly volleyball player.
"It's kind of tough for them to see, hey we're in this uniform this season, hopefully that might be one of them on that side next season. So that's he hope for me for them going forward," said NYU-Poly Volleyball Coach Kevin Edwards.
"I think it's kind of interesting we're playing ourselves, I guess. It's two different campuses though, so that would be the difference," said Laura Masgula, an NYU-Poly student.
NYU won the match, three sets to none.
