American Airlines has agreed to boost wages for low-paid workers at John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.

Governor Andrew Cuomo's office says that the airline will raise wages $1 an hour for contract workers who now earn $9 an hour or less.

American will raise wages again to $10.10 an hour by next year.

The governor's office says that the airline will make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a paid holiday in the future, and will give workers time and half if they worked the holiday last month.

The Port Authority asked American, Delta, United and JetBlue to raise airport worker pay.

So far, only American and Delta have signed on.
