The man lovingly known as "The Colonel" at the village hot spot "The Bitter End" has died.

According to a Facebook post from the bar dated February 14th, Paul Colby passed away last Thursday night.

He was 96.

The post went on to say Paul was sharp, witty and happy until the end.

Colby, a native New Yorker who grew up on the Lower East Side, started managing the club in 1965 and then took over as owner in 1971.

While running the venue, music acts from Bob Dylan to Taylor Swift and comedians like Jon Stewart graced the stage.

The bar's website says "A memorial celebrating his amazing journey will be announced shortly."
