Two people are dead following an accident on the Long Island Expressway early Tuesday morning.

Police say an Audi sedan was driving westbound on the Long Island Expressway when it crashed just before 1 a.m.

The vehicle turned on its side and wrapped around a tree near Kissena Boulevard in Kew Gardens Hills.

A man and a woman inside died at the scene.

Witnesses say the car may have been going close to 100 miles an hour just before it crashed.

"I see the car just going really fast, and he hit a dip. Once he hit the dip, he tried to brake, so the car kinda spins to the left, and he hit a tree," said one witness.

Police say they are still investigating the crash.
