Police have arrested a Queens man that they say is responsible for the first murder of 2014.

Police arrested 26-year-old Sheldon Smith and charged him with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The victim, 22-year-old Julio Mora, was killed about an hour into the new year.

Officers found him dead inside a house in South Jamaica.

Sources say that police initially thought he had been stabbed in the chest several times, but a medical examiner determined that he actually died from a gunshot wound.
