The city medical examiner says an autopsy performed on fashion designer Michael Savoia, whose body was pulled from the Hudson River on Sunday, was inconclusive.
Further tests will have to be done to determine a cause of death.
The 55-year-old lived on a boat docked at Chelsea Piers.
He was last seen early Thursday morning as he left the popular Chelsea nightclub "Marquee."
Savoia was a fashion designer who once owned a clothing store on Essex Street and designed clothes for celebrities like Ricky Martin.
He closed his store a short time ago.
Friends were shocked to hear about his death.
"Just a fantastic guy. So sad when everybody heard the news about him. But people like that, what are you going to say? They come around once?" said one friend.
"I have a clothing store just down the street from his old spot and he was always very welcoming, you know, invite me into his shop, I'd check out his new stuff and everything, he's just such a great guy and yea he's going to be sorely missed," said another friend.
Police say there were no signs of foul play but they are still investigating.
