Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday appointed a Deputy Mayor for Strategic policy initiatives as his administration continues to take shape.
The mayor says Richard Buery will focus on universal pre-K, but his job will go well beyond that.
Buery will also be in charge of developing 100 community schools as well as assembling the mayor's Children's Cabinet to make sure horrific child abuse cases are not repeated.
"Wherever you see an effort that needs that kind of inter-agency coordination in its court or agenda chances are that Richard will end up playing a major roll in it.
"Our job is to make these two New York Cities one New York City. I share the mayor's vision about what it would take to make the mayor's promise of equal opportunity real for every, every, every citizen."
Buery is a graduate of Stuyvesant High School.
He went on to earn degrees from both Harvard and Yale.
In his professional life, Buery helped build Community based organizations and headed up the Children's Aid Society.
