A man who shot at police in 2012 was convicted of attempted murder Friday after jurors rejected his argument that he was defending himself.
Luis Martinez, 25, was also found guilty of weapons possession charges in the Lower East Side shooting.
Police say he opened fire when two officers approached him.
He contended that he didn't know they were officers.
Police say they then gave chase and returned fire.
Investigators say a bullet from Martinez's gun hit officer Thomas Richards, but it was blocked by a magazine on the officer's gun belt.
The officers then shot and arrested Martinez.
He'll be sentenced on February 28.
