Eight-thousand contract workers at John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports who make $9 or less an hour will receive a raise.

Port Authority Director Patrick Foye ordered four major airlines to give workers an immediate $1 an hour raise to eventually reach $10.10 an hour.

He also directed the airlines to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a paid holiday for airport workers and to grant retroactive benefits to this year's MLK Day.

Last Monday, nearly 1,000 workers blocked a bridge leading to LaGuardia in an act of civil disobedience.

Dozens of people were arrested, including Rep. Charles Rangel. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
