The New York City Police Department on Wednesday announced an arrest has been made in the beating of a theater journalist in Midtown earlier this month.

Police say Leighton Jennings, 24, of Queens is now charged with felony assault in connection with the January 17 attack at 54th Street and Seventh Avenue on Randy Gener, 46.

The New York City Police Department says Gener was punched and left unconscious.

Friends and family held a vigil on Monday for the journalist, who has since undergone brain surgery and is said to still require additional procedures.

Gener is openly gay and the NYPD's hate crimes unit is investigating the beating as a possible bias attack.
