Police have released a sketch of a man suspected of badly beating a theater journalist in Midtown last weekend.

Investigators say the man depicted in the sketch above punched 46-year-old Randy Gener in the face in the early hours of January 17, knocking him unconscious near 54th Street and Seventh Avenue.

Police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.

Gener is a writer and editor whose work has appeared in the New York Times, the Daily News and other publications.

He remains hospitalized with severe head trauma.

The suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a gray 4-door Nissan with Mississippi license plate number KAT-397.

He is described as being 6 feet tall with short black hair.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
