The New York State Public Service Commission is planning to peek behind the curtain of the state's major energy utilities.
The agency will examine the staffing and hiring practices of utilities like Con Edison and a host of others to come up with recommendations and best practices.
Officials expect the audit to be completed by August of 2015.
The commission adds that it will focus on how the utilities staff those areas connected to service reliability and customer service.
Governor Andrew Cuomo is giving the commission the power to force utilities to implement recommended changes.
