NEWARK - The flight that was forced to turn around after heavy turbulence injured its flight crew will leave Friday morning, according to United Airlines.

The FAA says that the plane, scheduled to travel from Newark Airport to Beijing, encountered heavy turbulence about 45 minutes after takeoff.

Passengers say that the pilot warned them to strap in, but the flight crew was on their feet.

The FAA says that five flight attendants were injured but are expected to be OK.

"There was a flight attendant who was kind of limping," said Bryan Munoz, a passenger on the flight. "The other one had their hand across their chest, probably like a broken arm. I don't want to speculate, but probably something really bad."

"I didn't notice something was wrong because it was pretty normal to have turbulence," said Mingie, a passenger on the flight. "It's just, that one was pretty strong."

"Most of the passengers, they were on alert," said Jutao Zhao, a passenger on the flight.

The plane returned to safely to Newark.

The other 11 crew members and all 189 passengers were uninjured.
